Hoyo de Monterrey, an existing brand predating the Revolution, was founded in 1865 and specialises in producing mild cigars using high-quality tobacco sourced from the premium Vuelta Abajo region. The cigar's name is inspired by San Juan y Martinez, a small town located in Vuelta Abajo, which is the primary tobacco source for Habanos. The blend exclusively incorporates Seco and Ligero leaves from nearby plantations.
